A group of 40 delegates attending the four-day Global Learn Asia Pacific 2010 conference in Penang seized the opportunity to visit the WOU main campus.

The visitors comprised mainly of educators and administrators of higher education from all over the world, including Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand and United States. WOU Assistant Vice Chancellor (Academic Support) Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye presented a brief overview of the university, its academic programmes and the open distance learning model adopted.
Following a campus tour conducted by Corporate Communications Manager Lim Yao-han, the group witnessed a demonstration of the learning management system and e-library facilities by staff from the Educational Technology & Publishing department and the Learning and Library Services unit.

Assoc Prof Sunee Silphiphat from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (Thailand) was happy to take time out of the busy conference schedule to visit the campus.
“I have heard so much about WOU from my colleagues who have been here before. This is really a nice place to work and study in!” she remarked.
Prof Insung Jung from the International Christian University in Japan, who was previously attached to WOU as a Visiting Fellow, was seen eagerly showing the campus to her colleagues.
“I feel like I’m coming home,” she said.

WOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng, who earlier welcomed the visitors as they arrived, also took the opportunity to join part of the tour and get to know the delegates.
The two-hour visit culminated in a networking session between the delegates and WOU academic staff over coffee and snacks. New connections were forged and overall it was a fruitful visit for both the guests and staff alike.
