The conducive learning ambience of the scenic seafront campus left a positive impression on the WOU students from Klang Valley when they made their first visit to the University’s main campus in Penang today.
The 30 students were accompanied by head of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre (KLRC), Audrey Keong Mei Cheng, and Klang Valley Senior Finance & Administration Executive, Tan Chia Yun. They came from KLRC and the Bandar Utama, Subang and Klang Regional Support Centres.

Audrey Keong highlighted that the purpose of the visit was to forge better relations between the students and the University and to enrich their learning experience at WOU. “We organised this visit as part of student activities upon the request of some students who had long desired to see the beautiful main campus. It offers them an opportunity to interact and know each other better since they usually only meet during tutorial classes once a month,” she stated.
At the main campus, the group were briefed by Head of Penang Regional Centre, Teh Kim Kow, Dean of the School of Foundation & Liberal Studies, Dr S Nagarajan, and Senior Lecturer from the School of Business & Administration, Chong Fook Suan. The students also visited the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Library where they were welcomed by Library Manager Chew Bee Leng.

The students enjoyed a leisure walk through the Homestead mansion, admiring the hall, loft and finishing, and also experienced the nice sea view and breeze before adjourning for lunch at the Function Room in the Albukhary Building.
The group took time for some sightseeing the next day, visiting the Kek Lok Si temple and shopping at the Air Itam market area. The students had a great time in Penang, and were really impressed with the main campus, particularly its location by the sea.

Ku Cu Ying, a Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Banking & Finance student currently in her third year, remarked, “”I think WOU should continue to organise such visits to the main campus every year so that the new and returning students have a chance to see and know about the main campus and its history. I was able to know the other students better and the trip is a good way to relieve stress after exams.”
Clement Tan also suggested visits every year as it will benefit outstation students like him, adding, “We study online and in Kuala Lumpur. Many of us have never seen the main campus before.” Meanwhile Johnny Lee, noted, “We really enjoyed to the max in terms of eating, shopping, taking photos, and our main campus is really awesome. I wish to see more such outings where we can relax and get better acquainted.”
