(3-4 December 2008)

Renowned flautist Prem Joshua performed over two evenings at the Wawasan Open University main campus to showcase his unique brand of fusion music and contribute to charitable causes.

The charity concert, which was preceded by an Indian buffet vegetarian dinner at the Home Town Café @ WOU, was attended by more than 350 people, with the minimum donation cap of RM200 per person.

The concert was organised by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Penang Branch, together with the Temple of Fine Arts.

Some 280 people attended the second evening with proceeds totalling about RM 8,000 from donations of varying amounts going to the Temple of Fine Arts.

The audience had the privilege of catching the multi-instrumentalist and composer in action. Prem Joshua’s musical presentation is a blend of East and West, combining the meditative classical Indian tunes with contemporary Western music.

Born to a musical family in Germany, he learnt to play the flute while still a child. He then went to India to absorb her culture and music, which henceforth defines his performances until today.
