WOU holds Open Day at its Regional Offices

Wawasan Open University organised open days at its six regional offices – Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Kota Bharu, Penang, Bandar Utama and Johor Bahru – to inform the public about its courses and financial incentives for the coming January 2009 semester.

A total of 80 persons attended the open day at KLRO on October 19th. A senior citizen, Ti Teow Lay, shared how WOU has enriched his life. Prof Ng Wai Kong, Fakir Mohamed Omar Din and Steven Phan, from the main campus in Penang helped out.

The Ipoh RO open day on November 9th attracted 93 people with 10 registrations recorded. The innovative team also organised health talks and screenings, a blood donation drive and a PC fair. Regional Operations director Chong Kong Hoong, lecturer Teoh Ai Ping and Associate Prof Dr Sanjay Jasola assisted in counselling those who were interested.

The KBRO received 48 enquiries and seven registrations (three for CEMBA and four Bachelor’s) during its turn on November 14th. Lecturer Prakash Arumugam from the School of Business and Administration conducted a one-hour video-conferencing on the Master’s programmes, while regional office directors Meilina Puteh and Ching Huey Ling shared their success stories.
 
The first Open Day organised by the Penang Regional Office at the main campus on November 23rd recorded a fairly good turnout of over 100 visitors. Eight new students registered to for the January 2009 semester while there were five re-enrolments.

Meanwhile the Bandar Utama Regional Support Office (BU8) open day on November 29th saw 45 people attending with family and friends. A total of 13 new students signed up – two for CeMBA, 10 for Bachelor’s and one for the Headstart programme – while one re-enrolled. The BU8 has to date registered 20 new students and re-enrolled three.

The Johor Bahru regional office received 42 visitors on November 30th, of which they managed to register 11 new students.

All the open days could not have run successfully without the dedicated staff stationed at all the six ROs who responded patiently to enquiries from the public.
