WOU hosts Youth Speaks for the Nation 2008 finals

Wawasan Open University lent its support to the 28th Youth Speaks for the Nation 2008 elocution contest by hosting the event at its premises for the first time as the academic partner.

The contest themed ‘One Nation, One Vision’ was organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Penang in collaboration with the State Education Department, and sponsored by The Star.

The coveted challenge trophy went to SMK Chung Ling’s Koay Keat Yang, 17, the only male out of the eight finalists from the various secondary schools in Penang. He also won himself RM500 and a free subscription of The Star for a year for emerging as champion.

In third place was Marina Tan Hsien Wei, who at 14 years was the youngest finalist. She took home RM200 and three months’ free subscription of the paper for her valiant effort.

WOU joins the annual public-speaking contest this year as its academic partner since it coincides with the university’s task to promote the speaking of the English Language and motivate students to keep abreast with the happenings in the nation.
