WOU talk on surviving economic downturn to MEF members

Over 40 members of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) attended a talk on ‘Meandering Mean Times’ at Wawasan Open University to gain some insight on how to tackle the current economic challenge.

The talk was presented by WOU’s School of Foundation and Liberal Studies dean Dr Mogana Dhamotharan and human resources director Shirley Khoo Suan Gaik. They addressed the prevailing concern of employers on how to cope and manage, for now and in the future, the fast becoming bleak economic times.

Dr Mogana suggests employers encourage employees to seek additional skills.

Dr Mogana suggested employers encourage their employees to seek additional skills so as to create synergistic results that will benefit all parties involved in the economy.

“More importantly, now is probably the right time to look into ways of turning uncertain times like these into opportunities for ourselves,” she added.

Shirley explains how to optimally manage personnel and resources during hard economic times.

Meanwhile Shirley shared from her extensive HR experience on how to optimally manage personnel and resources during hard economic times.

The talk was given at the monthly MEF regional industrial meeting which was held at WOU and attended by human resource practitioners from business and logistics, hotels, automobile industry, electronics, recruitment, manufacturing, distribution and from importer companies.

MEF Penang branch chairman Zainol Zakaria chaired the meeting while Industrial Relations senior consultant William Joseph presided over the discussion to offer advice and assistance.

The monthly meetings are held to discuss various employment issues and as a platform for members to exchange views and update each other on the latest ways of improving themselves as employers.
