Wawasan Open University forged a smart partnership alliance with yet another industry giant through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) at Menara PGRM, Kuala Lumpur.
Under the agreement with NUBE which aims to provide affordable educational opportunities to those working in the banking industry, WOU will conduct advanced-level training programmes and offer appropriate tertiary education for NUBE staff, members, friends and families.

The agreement also allows for the participation of NUBE in WOU’s Valued Partner Programme (VPP) where group discounts and study grants will be offered to each student registered with the university through the union.
The MoU seeks to facilitate the establishment of exchange programmes with captains of the banking industry through co-operative discussions and forums facilitated by NUBE. WOU will also be able to invite NUBE’s banking industry leaders to present special talks and previews to its students.

Another area of cooperation is the offer to WOU for the use NUBE’s main office and four branches – at Penang, Ipoh, Malacca and Kelantan – for joint activities to promote the university’s educational programmes.
The formal agreement between WOU and NUBE was signed by Vice Chancellor Tan Sri Emeritus Prof Gajarai Dhanarajan and NUBE president S. Sivabalan on behalf of the two parties, witnessed by Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Seah Soo Aun and NUBE general secretary J. Solomon.
“With this agreement in place, we can now customise a more current, comprehensive, and market driven curriculum that addresses both the conventional and the rapidly evolving needs of the banking industry,” remarked Tan Sri Dhanarajan in his speech.

Some 50 people graced the event held at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Office. Among them were WOU Council members Dato’ Dr Michael Yeoh and Rinalia Abdul Rahim, KLRO director Abdul Rahman Sidek, Bandar Utama regional director Meilina Puteh, and marketing director Usha Veeriah. An estimated 30 members of NUBE attended.
The NUBE is a national union representing workers in the banking and financial institutions in Peninsular Malaysia. It has 28,000 members nationwide.
