WOU recently played host to a group of Fourth and Fifth Formers from SMK Taman Desa (SMKTD), Kuala Lumpur, in which the students were exposed to the University’s full-time undergraduate degree programmes and the management of its library facilities. The study tour was facilitated at the request of the School.

A delegation of 35 students accompanied by seven school teachers undertook the visit to the WOU main campus today. The visitors listened to briefings and took time to explore the library and campus surroundings.
They were welcomed by Penang Regional Centre (PGRC) director Ching Huey Ling, who highlighted the nine full-time degree programmes offered by the University. They are six from the School of Business & Administration, two from the School of Science & Technology, and one from the School of Humanities & Social Sciences.

Ching also shared about the financial incentives given, including the 50% rebate for the upcoming September 2018 intake. It was an eye-opener for the School with one of the teachers commenting that the RM14,000 tuition fee for the 3-year degree programme is very affordable and she will surely share this with her niece.
Every student received souvenirs and the full-time programme flyers, while the teachers were each given the programme brochures as well.

The students were very happy with the campus ambience as it located by the beach and they took the opportunity to go down to the beach to snap a few photos for remembrance of their visit.
The delegation also spent some time at WOU’s Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Digital Library, where they browsed the shelves and open collection area for subjects of interest to them. The head of WOU’s Learning & Library Services Unit, Chew Bee Leng, and Assistant Manager (Circulation Services), Ooi Siew Lee, were on hand to answer their queries. Generally, the students were curious about the preservation method for the subscribed serials/magazines/journals and the book classification standards used.

Overall it turned out to be pleasing, educational and enjoyable trip for the SMKTD delegation.
