WOU Hosted Relay for Life Penang 2016

Wawasan Open University (WOU) hosted the launching of Relay for Life Penang at the main campus – attended by over 100 individuals, health providers, cancer survivors, doctors, nurses, entrepreneurs and professionals from private organisations, government departments and NGOs.

In his welcoming speech, event organising chairman James Lochhead stated, “Wawasan Open University has been a proud supporter of Relay for Life Penang for the last five years. Between the launch and the final event in June, we will be carrying the messages of the Relay to every corner of Penang, registering hopefully over 3,000 people of all ages and backgrounds for the Youth Park event, and getting them to help us raise over RM300,000 for our wonderful ‘Hospice at Home’ programme.”

Representing WOU at the launch was Corporate Communications Manager, Rasidah Mion, who was fascinated with the whole project. She said in her speech, “We are conscious that there is much to be learned about cancer, and so much that can be done

in our fight against cancer if we have the knowledge. This is of course what WOU generally is all about – lifelong learning and putting our knowledge to the benefit of all of us in our society.”

WOU will participate for the sixth consecutive year as a gold sponsor of Relay for Life Penang 2012 themed ‘Fighting Cancer Together’, which is to be held at Youth Park on June 23-24.

Forming a team under the WOU banner, the University will join the rest of the participants from other organisations in a walkabout round the field of the Youth Park, symbolising the ongoing fight against cancer.
